Through its discovery activities, Affectis has identified several drugable targets with great potential for the treatment of depression. Among these targets is the prostaglandin E2 receptor 1 (also known as EP-1), a G-protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) and a member of the prostaglandin pathway which acts downstream of COX-2. Affectis has demonstrated that inhibition of EP-1 improves depression-like symptoms in mice.
Another target being developed by Affectis is P2X4, a ligand-gated ion channel closely related to P2X7. Affectis has shown that inactivation of P2X4 has antidepressant effects in mice.
