Affectis Pharmaceuticals AG Receives State Grants for the Development of Novel Antidepressants

Munich, Germany -- Affectis Pharmaceuticals AG today announced that it has received two research grants totalling € 2.2 million to broaden and progress its proprietary drug discovery and development programmes. The Company has secured € 1.7 million from the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) to develop novel drug candidates targeting a specific ion channel that is exclusively explored by Affectis Pharmaceuticals. Studies conducted so far have shown that this new target plays a crucial role in the development of depression and is therefore expected to fundamentally improve the treatment of the disease. As a second grant, the State of Bavaria Technology Programme has committed almost € 0.5 million for the discovery of novel target genes involved in the development of depression and anxiety.

Affectis Pharmaceuticals AG Closes € 4 Million Series B Investment

Munich, Germany -- Affectis Pharmaceuticals AG has closed a € 4 Million Series B second financing round led by EMBL Ventures, Heidelberg, Germany. Additional new investors participating in this financing round were DG Lux Multimanager I SICAV Lacuna APO BioTech, KfW, and Sunrise Water Ltd. Existing institutional investors LSP and BayernKapital as well as the Max-Planck-Society also participated. Dr Christof Antz, Managing Partner of EMBL Ventures, will join Affectis’ Board of Directors.

The proceeds will be used to progress the Company’s drug development programs for the treatment of depression into the clinic. The most advanced drug candidate addresses an ion channel associated with depression for the first time. This ion channel has been extensively validated and it has the potential to become the first truly novel target for the treatment of depression in more than a decade. Modulating this target holds the promise of a therapeutic benefit superior to current antidepressants, namely to act faster, with less side-effects and to address more patients.

Affectis Pharmaceuticals AG Announces Target Validation Collaboration with Mitsubishi Pharma

Munich, Germany, -- Affectis Pharmaceuticals AG announced today that it has signed a collaboration agreement with Mitsubishi Pharma Corporation for the development of novel therapeutics for the treatment of affective disorders. Under the terms of the agreement, Affectis will apply its pioneering target validation technology and its exclusive animal models for the validation of Mitsubishi Pharma’s gene targets involved in depression and anxiety.
