Joachim Rothe


Chairman

  Joachim Rothe is responsible for Life Science Partner’s (LSP) German office in Munich and currently serves on the supervisory boards of BioXell (I), Scion (USA), Affectis (G) and Morphochem (G). Before joining LSP in early 2002, he was a principal at MPM Capital in Cambridge, Mass., and managing director of MPM Capital GmbH based in Munich. In that capacity, Joachim Rothe served on the supervisory boards of Novirio Pharmaceuticals (now: Idenix, of which a majority stake was sold to Novartis in early 2003), Omrix and t. Breeders (now: ViaCell). He also served as founding CFO of Idenix. Previously, he was at McKinsey & Company where he worked as an engagement manager on assignments in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries. During his time as a scientist with Hoffmann-La Roche in Basel, Switzerland, Joachim Rothe focused on molecular immunology and contributed to the preclinical development of an important drug candidate. Joachim Rothe holds a masters degree in Biochemistry from Freie Universität Berlin, and he earned his PhD from the University of Freiburg in Germany, supervised by Georges Köhler (Nobel Prize 1984). He has authored numerous articles in leading scientific publications such as Nature.
