Joachim Rothe

  Joachim (JR) Rothe is a General Partner at Life Sciences Partners (LSP) at its German office in Munich. He currently serves on the supervisory boards of Affectis, Ascenion, Okairos and previously served on the supervisory boards of BioXell, Cellerix (now: Tigenix), Idea, Morphochem, and U3 Pharma (now: affiliate of Daiichi Sankyo).
Before joining LSP in early 2002, JR was a principal at MPM Capital in Cambridge, Mass., and managing director of MPM Capital GmbH based in Munich. In that capacity, he served on the supervisory boards of Novirio Pharmaceuticals (Nasdaq: IDIX), OMRIX Biopharmaceuticals (Nasdaq: OMRI) and t. Breeders (Nasdaq: VIAC), and he was significantly involved in the Biovitrum (SSE: BVT) and Cellular Genomics transactions.
He was also founding CFO of Idenix. Previously, he was at McKinsey & Company where he worked as an engagement manager on assignments in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries. During his time as a scientist with Hoffmann-La Roche in Basel, Switzerland, Joachim Rothe focused on molecular immunology and contributed to the preclinical development of an important drug candidate.
Joachim Rothe holds a masters degree in Biochemistry from Freie Universität Berlin, and he earned his PhD from the University of Freiburg in Germany, supervised by Georges Köhler (Nobel Prize 1984). He has authored numerous articles in leading scientific publications such as Nature.
