Adriaan Sitsen

  Prof. Sitsen obtained his PhD in medicinal chemistry at the State University of Utrecht in The Netherlands. He also completed his medical studies at the same university. During his career, he was Head of the Section CNS of the Medical Research & Development Unit at Organon N.V. and was, amongst others, co-responsible for the clinical development and registration of the antidepressant mirtazapine (Remeron) in both Europe and the USA. He was a member of the Dutch Health Council and a professor of clinical pharmacology at the Medical Faculty of the University of Utrecht. Since his retirement from Organon, he is a consultant to a number of pharmaceutical companies. Prof. Sitsen has published approximately 100 research articles and is co-editor of the Handbook of Anxiety and Depression: A Biological Approach. He is also the editor-in-chief of a leading Dutch-language textbook of pharmacology.
